Vintage French Medals and Some Very Magic Love

June 30, 2011

I'm so excited  to be able to share a true vintage French find with you today.  Since religious medals are a staple of my jewelry-making, I frequently sometimes run out of them.  I suppose I could just order some online from any old  jewelry company, but then they would be ~ insert gasp here~ new!  We can't have that, now, can we?

So I searched for some unique online resources and it was Etsy to the rescue!

I found a French shop that sells vintage items, including religious medals.  Jackpot!  I recently received my lot of 6 medals and I'm ready to go!  The first I've chosen to use, as seen above, is a basic medal of the Virgin Mary.  What's NOT basic is that the words on the medal are written in, of course, French!

O Marie
concue sans peche
priez pour nous
qui avons
recours a vous

O Mary
conceived without sin
pray for us
who have
recourse to thee

Beautiful and meaningful in any language.......

Another unique charm I've included is not, alas, French, but it is vintage. Well, the inside is vintage.  I filled a double-sided glass pendant charm with vintage sheet music.

One side says
To Love

While the other side says
Very Magic

Hopefully the ultimate wearer will be surrounded by some very magic love of her own!

Here's to a wonderful holiday weekend to you all!

And don't forget
is still going on below,
so link up before Sunday afternoon and
have a
Happy 4th of July!

Tuesday's Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party

June 27, 2011

Welcome to the first ever Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party!

For those of you who are new
~ and not in the know ~
Club G.W. stands for Club Goodwill!

Before we get the party started I thought I'd share with you a recent Mr. Thrifty find.  Yes, that's the name of the store, Mr. Thrifty.  (I kind of like it!)  Anyway, as soon as I walked in I knew I wanted this chair.

It's a vintage elementary school chair.  That's right.  And I love it!

I think what I love the most is the sea foam green  paint on the metal back supports and legs.

Not to mention the rust. :)

I was going to use black paint, but then realized I had something else that was much better.

And voila.

So why did I stencil on No 5?  Don't ask me why.

I just know that I love it!

Now let's take a peek at the Rules and get this party started!

Party Rules:

Link up any post, past or present, related to any Goodwill, thrift store, flea market, estate sale, barn sale, YOU NAME IT, find you would like to share. This includes any posts featuring thrifty find re-dos!

Be sure to link your thumbnail back to your original post’s URL and not just to your blog’s main address. (If you don't do this InLinkz will redirect you to correct it.)

Please either post the party’s button (grab it from my top right side bar) OR link back to the party somewhere in your post.

I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO BECOME A FOLLOWER
but it's not mandatory.

And try to visit other party guests, that’s what this is all about!

Enough of the rules, let's get this party started!

(NOTE:  In order to give everyone enough time to participate, I've left the party open through the 4th of July holiday weekend.  Then I'll post my favorites before next Tuesday's party!)

*****Please space down a bit for the linky!*****

Let's Button This Thing Up

June 22, 2011

Just a reminder that the first Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva Party will take place next Tuesday, June 28th.  And guess what?  I have a button for you to share and help spread the word about it!  It's at the very top of my right sidebar.  Just copy and paste the code provided into your Blogger Design gadget box.  Or place the button in a post if you'd prefer.  Either way, I'd be tickled pink if you could just let your thrifty friends know that they, too, should join in the fun!

MY "JERSEY SHORE" and Club G.W.Party Announcement!

June 20, 2011

No, I'm not talking about that T.V. show (which I've never watched, by the way).  I'm talking about going home to family, friends and a week's vacation that your kids will carry with them for an entire year.  Yes, my husband is from the Jersey shore.  Pretty close to the place they shoot that show, even.  And I spent most of my childhood summers at the Jersey shore with my family, on the beach and the boardwalk.  So what IS my Jersey Shore?  Quite a bit different, I'm afraid, than that other Jersey Shore.

There you have it.  Always my favorite photo, the kids from the back, walking together.  It was a nice respite from the everyday that is life.  But we're home now, and it's time for the much-awaited Club G.W. party announcement!

I'm taking the plunge and hope that you'll take it with me.

The first official
Club G.W.
with
Charm Bracelet Diva
P-A-R-T-Y
begins next Tuesday
June 28th.

That should give you a week to get ready and show us what you got:
your recent finds from your favorite haunts
be it Goodwill, thrift stores, flea markets, estate sales, barn sales,
you name it.
Anything that made your heart go pitter-patter so loudly that you just had to have it.
And if you repurposed it, all the better!

Hope to see you there!

xoxo

Bauble Jar and the Little Girl Who Grew Up Too Fast

June 7, 2011

It's that time of year again....graduations, weddings, reunions.  Mine is coming up.  My college reunion, that is.  It means that I get to see my dearest friends for one short weekend that will last us all a lifetime of memories.

It also means that I get to see family.  And one particular niece that I'm going to see just celebrated a birthday.  She's in her twenties and married now.  Yes, I feel ancient.  Regardless, I had given her a bracelet on her wedding day that has since seen better days.  So I offered to spruce it up a bit.  And here it is.

I named this bracelet Bauble Jar a long time ago.  Have you ever had a Bauble Jar?   All of my kids do.  I made sure of it.  A bauble jar is any old jar that you fill with the little things that matter to you.  A special rock, a marble, a piece of sea glass.  Bauble jars are special.  I was hoping that this bracelet would be special, too.

I replaced the actual bracelet itself as well as some worn out pearls and beads.  Then I replaced the original clasp with a silver toggle.

My love of pearls is pretty obvious here.  And my love for the girl who will wear them is, I hope, pretty obvious too.  Happy Belated Birthday, Sara.

We love you.

White Wings and Trophy Cups

June 3, 2011

Yesterday while driving to my son's end-of-year field trip, I spotted a store that gave me pause.  "Community Thriftstore" it said. Since we live a half hour away and don't frequent that town I had never seen it before.  Needless to say I was thinking about that store the entire time we were on the field trip!  So of course we stopped there on the way home.

The place was h-u-g-e!  We didn't have a lot of time to spend, but I did find this little beauty.

I added the shredded paper and paper butterflies (thank you, Jen @ Jenniferrizzo {dot} com ~ Blogger's not letting me link up!) made from vintage book paper.

I know it's small for a "trophy cup", (okay, some might say it's more of a two handled cup) but I've been wanting one for a long time.  They're pretty hard to find and they're so expensive.  This, however, was not!

Chickadee Number 3 got a Beanie Baby.  And we both left happy.

Have a great weekend!

And don't forget
Club G.W. with Charm Bracelet Diva
will be coming soon!
Get ready to join the party!

xoxo
