Chocolate Covered Strawberries in 3 {Very} Easy Steps

July 31, 2014

Today I'm sharing how to make chocolate covered strawberries in -- of all things -- ice cube trays -- in 3 very easy steps.

Chocolate and strawberries. I mean, what's not to like? Hot summer days call for cool treats. While I have a more elaborate recipe for chocolate covered strawberries that I've used over the years for get-togethers, I came across this easy peasy way to make them on Pinterest.

(As you may or may not know, I've been having my kids pick their favorite foods from my "Fun Foods" Pinterest board.  We then go and get the ingredients together and make the recipe together.  The first recipe, chosen by my daughter, was a big hit.

My homemade whoopie pie recipe is one of the best.

Most recently, it was my son's turn to choose. And he chose chocolate covered strawberries. Here's what you need to know:

1. Fill an ice cube tray with melted chocolate.
(I used chocolate chips melted in the microwave.)

2. Put a strawberry in each cube compartment
(halve them if they're too big.)

3. Refrigerate until the chocolate hardens.

Done!

Here are my strawberries pre-dunking.

Here's how it looked after I poured in the chocolate and placed a strawberry in it.

And here are the finished products!

Just keep them in the fridge, and pop one out when the mood strikes.
(Which is quite often in my house.) They're not as fancy as my white chocolate-drizzled gourmet chocolate covered strawberries, but they'll do just fine, thank you. And best of all, we made them together.

Well, that's it for today, friends!

Welcome to the Blogland Tour!

July 28, 2014

Not long ago I was invited by my talented friend, Betsy, from My Salvaged Treasures, to participate in a blog tour. Considering the invite came from Betsy, I just had to say yes! You see, Betsy and I go way back, and she has been a mentor of sorts for me over the years. For starters, she is an incredible jewelry designer.

As well as a fabulous re-purposer of all things vintage.

 I truly treasure her friendship.
You can see her incredible work on her blog and in her Etsy shop
You can also find her on Facebook where she has over 25,000 Likes!
(Yes, I got the zeros right.)
Thanks for inviting me, Betsy!

For my portion of the tour I have to answer 4 questions, so you get to learn a little bit about me. And I get to introduce you to a blogger that I admire and believe that you should get to know, too!

1. What am I working on right now?

Well, on any given day you never know what I might be working on. It could be jewelry.  Or it could be a DIY knock-off.  Or maybe I just decided to paint something. Right now the home decor projects have pretty much been put on hold since the house is up for sale.  A thrifted hall mirror/coatrack has been calling my name, though.  Everything looks better with a little white paint, don't you think?

2. How does my work differ from others in this genre?

Well, as far as my jewelry goes, I'd like to think that I bring a je ne sais quoi to my vintage designs.

Many pieces I create have a story behind them, a story that reveals a saintly life or a revered icon of the church. But I also make some pieces that are an eclectic mix of vintage religious medals as well as other vintage charms that tell their own story. You can read about my creative process here. I enjoy having an Etsy shop, Love You More Designs, where I can express myself and offer my vintage jewelry for sale. There's nothing like having someone buy your jewelry, put it on and say, "I love it!"

In addition to my jewelry creations, I love to revive found objects that have been either discarded or put up for sale ~ whether it be by thrift store, estate sale, flea market, etc.

This collection of vintage milk bottles (and the vintage crate they're in) was picked up by the side of the road near my house.  Along with the awesome rustic table they're sitting on!

3. Why do I write/create what I do?

I'm a hopeless junker at heart. There, I said it. The thrill of the hunt keeps me going. I've been creative for as long as I can remember, and I was an English major in college. Need I say more?

4. How does my writing/creative process work?

I wish I could say that I had a foolproof plan for keeping up with this blog. But I can't. As much as I would like to make it a full time job, my family comes first. But that doesn't mean that I'm not constantly coming up with ideas to post about. Or perusing the latest Restoration Hardware catalogs to get inspiration for a thrifty re-do. Or reading updates from all the blogs in my blog reader that bring me inspiration every day.

Now I'd like to introduce you to a unique and talented blogger I think you should get to know.  Her blogland tour post will go live next Monday, on August 4th. In the meantime, why don't you drop by and say hello?

Modern Milk Glass: How to Grow Your Collection

July 25, 2014

While on vacation at the Jersey shore this summer, I stumbled across a beautiful vintage-style porcelain pitcher that I knew I just had to have.  It literally called to me from across the store as soon as I stepped foot over the threshold.  My eyes were drawn to it like a magnet. I kid you not. Have you ever had that happen to you?

Life's a Beach

July 23, 2014

Need I say more?

Just got back from a lovely vacay with family at the Jersey Shore.
The morning I took this picture it was absolutely beautiful beach weather.
(I mean, two sunny days out of eight isn't bad, right?)

Between vacation and chickadee number one's foot surgery yesterday I feel like I haven't been around much.

Well, it's time to get back in the swing of things and start some projects to share with you all!

All I need is a little time to myself.
Not sure WHEN that's going to happen.
But a girl can dream, can't she?

Summer Shopping Series Continued: Cece's Wares & Wears

July 21, 2014

Last summer I wrote about a cute coastal town in Michigan called South Haven.  It's situated on Lake Michigan and is chock full of unique, eclectic and vintage shopping spots.  I haven't gotten back there this summer but we did just visit another coastal town a bit farther south called New Buffalo.

While there, my daughters and I literally stumbled upon a really neat thrift store called Cece's Wares & Wears.  It's very new, and it's situated in a well-hidden courtyard at the end of an alley on North Whittaker Street.

Initially, you're greeted by this fine gentleman.

And a very unassuming sign.

Then you walk down an alley of sorts to a lovely courtyard just outside the store.

Even the sign on the building was unique-junky!

And the courtyard was full of old containers that were brimming with greenery.

There were also a few seating areas outside where you could take a load off.

The store is actually spread out between two buildings.  The first building we visited was filled with clothing and some small home decor pieces and jewelry. Sorry, but I didn't get any pictures of that one.

The second building was filled with great vintage finds.

I've always wanted a tripod lamp just like this one.

And what's not to love about this retro pleather naugahyde ottoman?

This swivel bar stool was ripe for the taking. I can picture it with a new upholstery job.  Maybe grainsack?

Red, white and blue prevailed in this cute summer vignette.

I fell in love with these plates.

I could picture these silver/pewter bowls filled with flowers.

And this chair reminded me of one we had when I was a kid.  I wish we had kept it!  Look at the legs and nailhead trim.

I was thrilled to have stumbled upon all that thrifty goodness.  I'm planning on going back for sure the next time I'm in town.

What's that?

Did I BUY anything?

Smirk.

I guess that's a story that will have to wait until next time.
