Some of my best redesigns have been happy accidents. I like to use a water based stain ...You did great! I like to use a water based stain americana brand, you can find it at Michaels, that leaves the most beautiful weathered paint and kind of seals the paint at the same time, just make sure your white paint is completely flat. Once you apply the stain with a brush, rub it off with a napkin, that's all you have to do. Also to make the paint more chippy all over your project, after you paint and stain, apply some modge podge to your project, then grab a piece of paper and stick it to it, wait a minute or two and peel it off, that'll chip your paint marvelously. If you need more tips, please let me know, don't be scared, some times things don't go like we plan, then we have to improvise.
